What is tithing?
The biblical principle of tithing is more than giving to a “good cause.” The word "tithe" means tenth or 10%. Tithing, or giving ten percent of your income, isn't merely giving something to God, it's giving back what was His to begin with as an act of spiritual discipline. All that we give, no matter the amount, is in grateful generosity for God’s love for us and for the support of God’s mission across the street and around the world. All that we have, or hope to have, comes from Him. Generosity teaches us to always put God first in our lives. “But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you --see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” II Corinthians 8:7
